Protect Your Child’s Photos from Facebook’s Facial Recognition Feature

Facebook just launched an automatic facial recognition feature that makes photo tagging easier, but could also put your child's photos at risk of being automatically tagged, exposing their privacy.

Facebook’s tagging feature allows your child's friends to tag pictures that your child appears in, and identifies your child automatically by suggesting to their friends that your child may be in the picture. Help your child change their privacy settings to disable automatic photo tagging by their friends by following these instructions:

1. Go to your child's Privacy Settings, under the Account menu, on Facebook.
2. Click “Customize Settings.”
3. Under the heading “Things Others Share,” click on Edit Settings next to “Suggest photos of me to friends.”
4. Switch the “Enabled” menu to “Disabled” and click “Okay.”

Now, your child's friends will have to manually tag your child in any photos rather than Facebook suggesting a tag for your child automatically.

SafetyWeb parental alerts can automatically notify you anytime your child is tagged in a photo. To enable SafetyWeb alerts for photo tagging, log in to SafetyWeb and customize your alert settings.
