Why You Should Update Your Child’s Facebook Security Settings Now

In honor of National Data Privacy Day tomorrow, Facebook announced this week it has launched new security measures to help safeguard your personal information on Facebook by allowing you [or your child] to log in and access all of Facebook using a secure connection, also known as "HTTPS".

What this means in plain English is that you and your child will be less likely to have your Facebook accounts compromised by hackers or unknown individuals, especially if you frequently access Facebook from a public network or place, such as a school, library, coffee shop, or shared network.

To enable this new Facebook security feature, you must go to the "Account Security" section of the Facebook Account Settings page and click on 'CHANGE' for Account Security. Click on Secure Browsing (https): Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible

You can also opt to have Facebook send you an email when a new computer or mobile device logs into your account, which is useful if you want to make sure that your child is the only person logging in to his or her own account, and not your child's friends (as many children unwisely share their passwords with their BFFs).
